Sustainability

At Morrow, we are on a constant journey to make our products and processes more sustainable and to minimize our environmental impact. We prioritize natural and sustainably produced materials, focus on the longevity of our goods, use recycled paper for our hangtags and packing materials, repurpose our returned and damaged goods with LA Quilting and Florals, and partner with Ridwell to collect any plastic we accumulate in our operations.

By acknowledging the environmental effects of our industry, we can take ownership and action to preserve and balance. Real sustainability is never achieved overnight, but we are always working to identify our obstacles and find conscious solutions for each.

Certifications

OEKO-TEX | GOTS

Our production processes involve low-impact dye procedures, responsible water practices, and clean energy sources. We choose our suppliers carefully, opting to only work with companies that are committed to caring for their employees and our precious planet. Our product offering is intentionally small, ensuring that each piece is created with the utmost care and consideration, and to promote conscious consumption and eliminate excess.

Materials

We thoughtfully choose every material that is included in our line based on its environmental impact, durability, longevity, and alignment with the brand aesthetic and ethos. Every new material is carefully tested to make sure we genuinely love its look, feel, and functionality. Our line is primarily made up of natural fibers that will stand the test of time with an occasional synthetic option that has been carefully researched and tested to ensure that it is made in a sustainable manner and contributes to the longevity of the product.

Each bedding material is thoughtfully considered to make sure we have options for customers with all different sleep styles and preferences. Continue reading below for more details on our offerings and why we chose to include each material in our line.

HEIRLOOM LINEN

Linen has been a core material for Morrow since our founding in 2016. Our Heirloom Linen is made from European flax linen which uses significantly less water than cotton, can be grown in poor soil, and uses fewer pesticides compared to most other natural fibers due to its hardy makeup. The mill that supplies our linen recycles 56% of the water used during their production process and dyes our bedding using a cold pad batch method which helps save energy and makes the resulting water easier to treat compared to other common dying methods.

Our linen is incredibly adaptable, it’s warm in the winter and cool in the summer with a soft handfeel, subtle slub texture, and perfectly imperfect appearance.

ORGANIC MATTE SATEEN

Our Organic Matte Sateen is made from 100% organic cotton and is designed to be soft and breathable. This prewashed, lightweight material is a modern take on sateens. Unlike the shiny sateens you’re probably familiar with, our sateen is matte and super soft with an almost brushed feel. Our sateen bedding is GOTS Certified, meaning that it is grown without pesticides and is created using environmentally friendly production processes.

The Organic Matte Sateen has a smoother texture than our linen and hemp, but with the same grounding essence.

ORGANIC PERCALE

COTTON TENCEL

Another of our favorite bedding materials is a soft and lightweight cotton and Tencel Lyocell blend. While we typically focus on natural materials, we made an exception for Tencel Lyocell because when blended with cotton, it adds softness while also making the material stronger and more durable, giving it an even longer lifespan than cotton alone. Tencel Lyocell is derived from wood pulp and in the production process, more than 99.8% of the solvent is recovered and fed back into the loop, resulting in almost zero wastage.

We recommend this fabrication for those who love the smooth, clean look of sateen and percale.

COTTON

We use cotton across almost all of our product categories, it’s an incredibly durable and adaptable natural fiber. Known for being lightweight and breathable, cotton is also a hypoallergenic fiber and because it comes from a plant, it helps absorb carbon in the air during its growth phase and will naturally break down at the end of the products' life. Cotton is used in our blankets, pillows, rugs, bedding, towels, and bath mats because we love its beautiful natural essence as well the versatility in its appearance. As we continue to grow as a company, we aim to use more organic and BCI certified cotton in our products.

WOOL

Wool is one of our favorite natural materials to use in rugs and pillows because of its beautiful, authentic, and imperfect appearance. As a very durable fiber, wool products have a long lifespan and are naturally antibacterial and odor resistant, allowing them to be spot cleaned and washed less frequently than many alternate materials.

RECYCLED POLYESTER / POLYESTER

We use very little polyester in our products, it’s mainly used in the filling of quilts and some pillows. Over the last few years we’ve been switching out products containing polyester to recycled polyester, but we have recently received new information that recycled polyester releases more microplastics into the water and air compared to conventional polyester. Because of this, we will be switching back to regular polyester and working to further minimize our usage of the material, we’re soon discontinuing our tufted pillows with polyester filling and focusing on pillows that can have feather and down inserts instead (sadly, this means our best-selling tufted button pillows will be discontinued).
